So the MTC is great. Everyone kept telling me "its gonna be hard" or "you're going to have to work really hard" and i got this idea in my head that this was going to be something difficult. But it's not hard. Only different. Now instead of 15 hour days spent rehearsing music I study the scriptures and teach investigators. (We taught our first lesson the 3rd day here). Instead of learning dances and choreography i drill verbs and grammatica. (that first lesson was in Spanish) I can already teach the lessons from Predicad Mi Evangelio and half the time think in Spanish. The spirit is absolutely the only reason i am able to do this. Yesterday i had such a cool experience, while teaching our investigator, I was all the sudden realizing how comfortable i felt with Spanish, i still had to search my mind for words and had awkward pauses, but the words came. It wasn't like i was speaking words i didn't know (Which is what i think every claims the gift of tongues does) but i was able to remember and use every word i had learned. My effort in study was secured and aided by the spirit.
My companion's name is Elder I and he is from Portland Oregon. He is great though sometimes has way too much energy;) My district is 6 guys: Elder R(sandy) Elder H (AZ) Elder M (TX) Elder G(provo (attended BYU)) Elder I and myself. our Zone is 3 districts and I have been assigned as the Zone/Branch Music Coordinator. i get to pick all the songs and special musical numbers (which we have EVERY week). Spanish himnos are some of my favorite things about el idioma.
Last tuesday we had a devotional with 6 apostles present (no big) (because they're training the new mission presidents) and Elder D. Todd Christopherson spoke to us. But the even more powerful moment was with our Branch President after when we were all going over the devotional together. i got to meet our Mission President and his wife and they are absolutely amazing. they both served in Salta Argentina and they are from Buenos Aires. (he's also missing half a finger.)
I am so content and happy being here. Because it is the place that the Lord needs and wants me. and as the hymn says, I'll go where you want me to go. I can feel the love of everyone here and everyone is here to help each other. I love my zone and they truly are my brothers and sisters. (fun fact i am in the west campus (exclusively an overflow of Spanish speaking missionaries) the church actually had to lease an apartment complex to accommodate the growth in missionaries. We have class in the Raintree apartments and live in the north half of WyView.
I love you all! tell my siblings that i love them and miss them.
Mom and Dad... i am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
grateful for all the basic things you have taught me. I have so far taught my roommates how to: iron, mop, use a washer, add chips to sandwiches, play volleyball, hang your shirts immediately after drying them so you don't have to iron. and many more things. Just talking to investigators i have realized the value the experiences you guys allowed me to have with talking to people have helped me prepare for this. i can't wait to get to Salta even though i have 5 more weeks here:P
Love Ya!
Elder Siebers.
